Sometimes travel photographers can set things up, on other occasions when they find an interesting location, it can be just a matter of time, waiting for someone to walk into the frame. In post-production, the image was converted into black and white and then 'tonal mapping' (or dodging and burning-in) was used to create the interest and atmosphere.
